Salsa Classes – 1.5 hour Class
Salsa is one of the most popular Latin dances in New York City. Salsa music originated in Cuba, and was popularized in Puerto Rico. Latin rhythms combined from different Caribbean and South American countries have helped form the popular Salsa Music that we know today. Salsa dancing in New York, known as SalsaOn2, is danced in a forward and backward motion with a partner. This fun and exciting dance incorporates various steps, partner work, styling, spinning and attitude. In the class you will learn new and fun moves, week to week, and learn how to move your body to the rhythms of Salsa.
You pay for the month of classes and each Salsa class is 1.5 hours. You take one class per week for that month, and we also offer discounted packages if you are interested in more than one. The first half of the class is danced without a partner. The instructor goes over individual steps, styling, and basic movements in the classroom. This is great for focusing on yourself and learning how to correctly take steps, and learn various Latin movements. The teacher also goes over Salsa music and you will learn how to hear for timing, rhythm, and musicality in Salsa music. The second half of the class is “the fun part,” this part is danced with a partner. No partner is needed to register as all students rotate together in the classroom. The partner-work section will focus on leading and following for the ladies and the gentleman. We then go over all the latest and fun turn patterns that make Salsa exciting. After learning all the basic moves, you will find dancing Salsa is a great new hobby and form of exercise.
